Programm

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

The SAA has followed the recommendations of international actuaries’ associations by developing a programme and guidelines for continuing professional development (CPD), thus ensuring the professional recognition of its members by the representatives of other national bodies in the actuarial field.

Primarily, however, the CPD programme is intended to uphold and enhance the quality and reputation of the actuarial profession in Switzerland’s financial community and abroad. It also gives SAA members an opportunity to involve themselves more closely in the activities of our organisation. With a mandatory CPD programme, the SAA will be better able to encourage more active involvement in its existing committees and attract more participants to its events.

As of 1 January 2012, the CPD will be mandatory for all members of the SAA’s Actuaries section. Similar concepts have been or are about to be implemented by actuaries' associations elsewhere in Europe.

To meet their continued professional development requirements, actuaries accredited with the SAA must submit proof of having earned 20 credit points annually. This corresponds to approximately 20 hours, according to the SAA’s CPD concept.

You can book these hours yourself electronically on your Credit Points Account. Seminars offered by the SAA and by other European actuaries' associations are all recognised, as are (some) in-house training courses. For detailed information, please refer to the 2008/01 edition of the SAA Bulletin. The guideline is available in German and English.

Members of the SAA’s Actuaries section and with the CERA qualification are not subject to an additional CPD requirement. Non-members of the SAA’s Actuaries section will have to acquire 20 credit points annually. Continuing professional development in the field of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) will be offered.
